The Project Launch-Conference
The Project Launch-Conference “Times of choice” on Friday 11th December 2009 was attended, in the panel of the invited institutions and experts, by “Maison d’Izieu – Memorial of the exterminated Jewish children” from France, besides national organisations and the Anne Frank House from the Netherlands, accounting for the firm commitment to establish a “permanent structured cooperation “between the memorial sites of different countries, including the “Haus der Wannsee Konferenz” from Germany, which was not represented at the conference due to sudden impediments, but nevertheless is constantly in touch with the partners.
During the morning, the presentations addressed to educators, students, and memorial site operators, dealt with the specific features of the Project and the educational value of the Memorial Sites. In the afternoon, 5 thematic workshops were held under the guidance of the experts of the Memorial Sites, that actively engaged 70 students and 8 teachers from the Italian partner schools, creating moments of intense and direct emotional involvement. The interest raised by the performed activities, and the need to multiply the occasions of close examination of the discussed issues, have suggested to increase the amount of the co-financing by Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna region, planning other parallel workshops, expectedly in March 2010, in addition to the other relevant planned project activities.
