The Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region, in collaboration with the Regional Government of the Emilia-Romagna, theFood and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the European College of Parma, with the participation of the Regional Department for Education for the Emilia-Romagna and under the patronage of the European Commission , the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Association of Municipalities and Regions of Europe - Federation of Emilia-Romagna , theEuropean Trade Union Committe for Education and of the Microfinance International Observatory of the University "Alma Mater Studiorum" of Bologna, promoted from the 23 to 27 November 2010 in Bologna, the 6th European Youth Meeting dedicated to the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, titled ““The Youth, the old and the new poverty: solidarity and social inclusion”.

The project

The European Youth Meeting 2010 of Bologna aimed to be the beginning of a process of real participation and commitment of the youth. The event was configured as a starting point for a further project development with effective implementation of the initiatives emerged during the Meeting, using the tools and opportunities provided by Youth in Action Programme in general and in particular by the Action 1.2 Youth Initiatives.

Moreover, the Meeting was characterised by an integrated and participatory process involving young people, their educational trainers, various actors which are active in the fight against poverty and social exclusion, institutions and others.

- Preparatory activity carried out by each school before the Meeting
- 9 under groups of young students, for deepening the main topic divided in 3 categories with the aim of developing viable project ideas
- A training course for teachers focused on role and functions of a coach, aimed at supporting the initiatives that emerge from the working groups
- Debating moments, formal and informal, with representatives of the organizations involved in the fight against poverty, academics, local and European institutions.

 

The participants

Students and teachers from 29 European countries.
Students and teachers from 29 schools from the Emilia-Romagna Region.
Each delegation was composed of 4 students and 1 teacher.

The activities

The Workshops revolved around the following main topics:

  • Youth Unemployment
  • Social Inclusion of vulnerable young people(top risk of social marginalization for disability, cultural, economic, territorial, ethnic reasons, mental problems, drug addiction, anti-social behaviour)
  • Child poverty
The diary

All participants (students and teachers) at the beginning of the activities of the Meeting received a Diary in which every day they could write down their thoughts, emotions and impressions of their experience in Bologna, in a sort of a daily personal Diary.

The best contributions of these Diaries, accompanied by the photos taken by the participants during the Meeting, were published in the Volume that the Legislative Assembly prepared and distribute to all delegations as feedback of the 2010 European Youth Meeting.

The contest

"Take a look at ... the Other"

Each delegation had the opportunity, supporting the preparatory work required prior to the Meeting, to interpret and represent in a concrete and realistic manner the problems related to poverty and social exclusion in its territory, and to propose possible solutions, inspired also by the daily activities of those who operate in this field.

Each delegation, individually or in cooperation with a partner school, was free to present a video clip with a maximum duration of 3 minutes.

The first top-rated ones were presented and awarded a prize during the closing ceremony of the event.
