Le traduzioni in inglese delle biografie delle vittime della strage alla Stazione del 2 agosto 1980 sono state realizzate dalla studentessa Catherine Sophia Hernandez – del Vassar College di Poughkeepsie, NY (USA) - Class of 2019 Italian Major, nell'ambito di un programma di scambio E.C.Co. (Eastern College Consortium) di Bologna, supervisionato dalla prof. Simona Bondavalli.

Questa attività è fra quelle progettate e realizzate nell’anno 2018 dall’Associazione parenti delle vittime della strage alla stazione di Bologna del 2 agosto 1980 e dall’Assemblea legislativa.

Mirella Fornasari in Lambertini

Mirella, 36 anni, viveva a Casalecchio di Reno, in provincia di Bologna, era sposata e madre di un ragazzo di 14 anni. Lavorava per la ditta Cigar una società che si occupava della ristorazione all’interno della Stazione e che aveva i suoi uffici sopra alle sale d’aspetto. Da qualche tempo il suo luogo di lavoro non erano più gli uffici in stazione ma quelli in via Marconi. Quel sabato che precedeva di poco le ferie estive era stato chiesto a Mirella di tornare nel suo vecchio ufficio e lei lo aveva fatto volentieri perché avrebbe rivisto le sue colleghe. L’esplosione la colse mentre lavorava e il suo corpo senza vita fu ritrovato solo a notte inoltrata. Assieme a lei morirono le colleghe Euridia, Franca, Katia, Nilla e Rita.

Mirella, 36 years old, lived in Casalecchio di Reno, in the province of Bologna. She was married and had a 14 year old son. She worked for Cigar, a Bolognese catering company that managed the restaurant inside the station. At the time of the bombing, her workplace was not in the offices above the station’s waiting rooms, but in the offices on via Marconi. On that day, a Saturday just before the summer holidays, she had been asked to return to her old office and she had done so willingly with the prospect of seeing her colleagues again. The explosion took her life while she was working and her body was only found late at night. She died alongside her colleagues Euridia, Franca, Katia, Nilla and Rita.

Euridia Bergianti in Baldazzi

Euridia, 49 anni, era nata a Campogalliano in provincia di Modena, abitava a Bologna assieme ad uno dei suoi due figli ed era rimasta vedova nel 1975. Lavorava da tre anni alla Cigar una società che si occupava della ristorazione all’interno della Stazione di Bologna e che aveva i suoi uffici sopra alle sale d’aspetto. Il 2 agosto lo scoppio della bomba la uccise mentre era in servizio al bancone del Self Service collocato nell’ala ovest della stazione di fianco alla sala d’aspetto di seconda classe. Assieme a lei morirono le colleghe Franca, Katia, Mirella, Nilla e Rita.

Euridia, 49 years old, was born in Campogalliano in the province of Modena and lived in Bologna with one of her two sons, as she became a widow in 1975. She had been working at Cigar, a catering company inside the Bologna station whose offices were located above the waiting rooms, for three years. On the 2nd of August, the bomb blast killed her while she was on duty at the self-service counter in the west wing of the station, next to the second-class waiting room. She died alongside her colleagues Franca, Katia, Mirella, Nilla and Rita.

Franca Dall’Olio

Franca, 20 anni, era nata a Budrio, abitava a Bologna, era figlia unica e da quattro mesi soltanto lavorava per la ditta Cigar, una società che si occupava della ristorazione all’interno della Stazione e che aveva i suoi uffici sopra alle sale d’aspetto. Qualche attimo prima dell’esplosione era al telefono con un fornitore che era andato a consegnare della merce. Normalmente era lei a scendere e a controllare il materiale mentre quella mattina chiese invece al fornitore di salire. Questi le rispose che sarebbe arrivato entro poco tempo, ma l’esplosione la colse al suo tavolo di lavoro mentre controllava il libro della contabilità e la uccise. Assieme a lei morirono le colleghe Mirella, Euridia, Nilla, Katia e Rita.

Franca, 20 years old, was born in Budrio as an only child. She lived in Bologna and had just started working for Cigar, a company that was catering inside the Station and which had her offices above the waiting rooms. A few moments before the explosion she was on the phone with a supplier who was supposed to deliver some goods. Normally she would have gone downstairs herself to check in the merchandise, but that morning she asked the supplier to deliver the materials upstairs. He replied that he would arrive in a short time, but the explosion hit Franca at her desk as she checked the ledgers and killed her. She died alongside her colleagues Mirella, Euridia, Nilla, Katia and Rita.

Katia Bertasi

Katia, 34 anni, era nata a Stienta, Rovigo e viveva a Bologna con i genitori, suo marito e i due figli: una femmina di 11 anni ed un maschietto di 15 mesi. Era ragioniera ed era in stazione perché lavorava alla Cigar, una società bolognese che si occupava della ristorazione e che aveva i suoi uffici sopra alle sale d’aspetto. Alle 10,25 era nel suo ufficio quando la bomba scoppiava nei locali sottostanti: l’esplosione la uccise mentre stava lavorando. Assieme a lei morirono le colleghe Euridia, Franca, Mirella, Nilla e Rita.

Katia, 34 years old, was born in Stienta (in the province of Rovigo), and lived in Bologna with her husband and two children: an 11-year-old daughter and a 15-month-old baby boy. She was an accountant at Cigar, a Bolognese catering company that managed the restaurant inside the station and had its offices above the waiting rooms. At 10:25 she was in her office when the bomb exploded in the area below; the explosion killed her while she was working. She died alongside her colleagues Euridia, Franca, Mirella, Nilla and Rita.

Nilla Natali

Nilla, 25 anni, era figlia unica, viveva coi genitori e stava per sposarsi, aveva già scelto i mobili per la sua nuova casa, anche quelli su misura per la cucina. Il 2 agosto era in stazione perchè era dipendente della Cigar, una società che si occupava della ristorazione all’interno della Stazione e che aveva i suoi uffici sopra alle sale d’aspetto. La bomba scoppiò mentre era nel suo ufficio e la uccise. Assieme a lei morirono le colleghe Euridia, Franca, Katia, Mirella e Rita.

Nilla, 25 years old, was an only child and she lived with her parents. She was about to get married and she had already chosen furniture for her new home, including specially-made furniture for her kitchen. On the 2nd of August, she was inside the station because she was an employee of Cigar, a Bolognese catering company that managed the restaurant inside the station and which had its offices above the waiting rooms. At 10:25 she was in her office when the bomb exploded in the area below; the explosion killed her while she was working. She died alongside her colleagues Euridia, Franca, Mirella, Katia and Rita.

Rita Verde

Rita, 23 anni, aveva una sorella ed un fratello, viveva a Bologna con i genitori e stava per sposarsi. Era impiegata alla ditta Cigar, una società che si occupava della ristorazione all’interno della Stazione e che aveva i suoi uffici sopra alle sale d’aspetto. Il 2 agosto era in ufficio e l’esplosione la colse durante il suo lavoro e la uccise. Assieme a lei morirono le colleghe Mirella, Euridia, Nilla, Franca e Katia.

Rita, 23 years old, had a sister and brother, lived in Bologna with her parents, and was about to get married. She was employed at Cigar, a company that was catering to the station and had its offices above the waiting rooms. On the second of August she was in the office when the explosion hit her while she worked and killed her. She died alongside her colleagues Mirella, Euridia, Nilla, Franca and Katia.

John Andrew Kolpinski

John Andrew, 22 anni, si era laureato all’Arts Court, di Birmingham in Inghilterra. Assieme alla sua fidanzata Catherine aveva intrapreso un viaggio per l’Europa, senza fissarsi particolari mete. Erano partiti zaino in spalla, arancione il suo, blu quello di Catherine, con il sacco a pelo, arnesi da campeggio, abiti e una macchina fotografica. Erano in stazione a Bologna per aspettare un treno. L’esplosione li uccise entrambi.

John Andrew, 22 years old, had graduated from the “Arts Court” in Birmingham, England. He and his girlfriend Catherine had embarked on a European journey without a set destination in mind. They each left with a backpack on their shoulders (his was orange, hers was blue) filled with their sleeping bags, camping equipment and clothes, and a camera. They were in Bologna station waiting for a train. The explosion killed them both.

Catherine Helen Mitchell

Catherine Helen, 22 anni, si era laureata all’Arts Court, di Birmingham in Inghilterra. Assieme al suo fidanzato John aveva intrapreso un viaggio per l’Europa, senza fissarsi particolari mete. Erano partiti zaino in spalla, blu il suo, arancione quello di John, con il sacco a pelo, arnesi da campeggio, abiti e una macchina fotografica. Erano in stazione a Bologna per aspettare un treno. L’esplosione li uccise entrambi.

Iwao Sekiguchi

Iwao, 20 anni, viveva nei pressi di Tokio con i genitori, una sorella e un fratello. Era stato ammesso alla Waseda di Tokio, una delle università più esclusive del Paese dove studiava letteratura giapponese. Un suo grande desiderio era conoscere l’arte, la lingua, le tradizioni italiane. Aveva ottenuto una borsa di studio dal Centro Culturale Italiano a Tokio e il 23 luglio era arrivato a Roma dove era rimasto una settimana trascorsa la quale era partito per Firenze. Il 2 agosto decise di lasciare il capoluogo toscano per raggiungere Bologna. Iwao teneva un diario del suo viaggio in Italia su cui si legge: «2 agosto: sono alla stazione di Bologna. Telefono a Teresa ma non c’è. Decido quindi di andare a Venezia. Prendo il treno che parte alle 11:11. Ho preso un cestino da viaggio che ho pagato cinquemila lire. Dentro c’è carne, uova, patate, pane e vino. Mentre scrivo sto mangiando». Fu l’ultima pagina perché lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise.

Iwao, 20 years old, lived near Tokyo with his parents, his sister and his brother. He had been admitted to Waseda, Tokyo, one of the most exclusive universities in the country, where he studied Japanese literature. One of his greatest desires was to know art, language, and Italian traditions. He had obtained a scholarship from the Italian Cultural Center in Tokyo and on July 23, he had arrived in Rome, where he then spent a week, then he had left for Florence. On the 2nd of August, he decided to leave the Tuscan capital to reach Bologna. Iwao kept a diary of his trip to Italy, which reads: "August 2: I'm at Bologna Station. Called Teresa but no show. So I decided to go to Venice. I take the train at 11:11. I bought a travel basket that I paid five thousand lire for. Inside there is: meat, eggs, potatoes, bread and wine. As I write, I'm eating." It was the final page he wrote because the bomb blast killed him.

Argeo Bonora

Argeo, 42 anni, era un ferroviere, era nato a Galliera, in provincia di Bologna, aveva due fratelli, era sposato ed aveva 5 figli. Dal 1970 si era trasferito per motivi di lavoro a Salorno, in provincia di Bolzano. Il 2 agosto era in ferie e ne aveva approfittato per andare a trovare la madre che abitava a Saletto di Bentivoglio, in provincia di Bologna. La bomba l’ha ucciso in stazione a Bologna mentre aspettava il treno per ritornare a casa.

Argeo, 42 years old, was a railroad worker. He was born in Galliera, in the province of Bologna, had two brothers, was married and had 5 children. In 1970, he moved to Salorno, in the province of Bolzano, because of his job. On the 2nd of August, he was on holiday and took the opportunity to pay a visit to his mother who lived in Saletto di Bentivoglio, in the province of Bologna. The bomb killed him while he waited for the train to return home.

Giuseppe Patruno

Giuseppe Patruno, 18 anni, era di Bari ed aveva dieci fratelli. Faceva l’elettricista. Stava trascorrendo un periodo di vacanza con il fratello a casa di amici a Rimini dove avevano conosciuto alcune ragazze straniere. La mattina del 2 agosto in auto assieme al fratello e ad un amico avevano accompagnato alla stazione di Bologna le ragazze che dovevano tornare in patria. Parcheggiata l’auto i ragazzi entrarono in stazione e si diressero verso il primo binario dove era in sosta il treno per Basilea. Giuseppe accelerò il passo e si ritrovò molto vicino all’esplosione che lo uccise. Il fratello, che si era attardato ad aspettare un amico, si salvò.

Giuseppe Patruno, 18 years old, was from Bari and had ten brothers. He was an electrician. He was spending a vacation time with his brother at some friends' house in Rimini where they had met some foreign girls. On the 2nd of August, he, his brother, and a friend accompanied the girls, who were returning home, in a car to Bologna Station. They parked the car and entered the station and moved to the first platform where the train to Basel had stopped. Giuseppe had sped up his pace and was very close to the explosion that killed him. His brother, who had stayed back to wait for a friend, was saved.

Irene Breton in Boudouban

Irène, 61 anni, era originaria della Svizzera dove era nata a Boncourt. Risiedeva a Delémont con il marito. Faceva l’orologiaia. Non sappiamo perché il 2 agosto fosse in stazione dove la bomba la uccise.

Irène, 61 years old, was originally from Switzerland, where she was born in Boncourt. She lived in Delémont with her husband. She was a clockmaker. We do not know why she was inside the station on the 2nd of August when the bomb killed her.

Fausto Venturi

Fausto, 38 anni, viveva con la madre e il fratello a Bologna, era donatore di sangue. Il 2 agosto era in servizio con il suo taxi alla stazione di Bologna: il suo turno era cominciato alle otto e avrebbe dovuto terminare alle 20. Le macerie causate dallo scoppio della bomba lo hanno travolto ed ucciso mentre stava chiacchierando con un collega.

Fausto, 38 years old, lived with his mother and his brother in Bologna; he was a blood donor. On the 2nd of August, he was on duty with his taxi at Bologna station; his shift had started at 8 am and was to end at 8 pm. The debris from the bomb blast hit and killed him while he was chatting with a colleague.

Vincenzo Petteni

Vincenzo, 34 anni, era nato a Malè, in provincia di Trento, abitava a Ferrara, era sposato e da un paio di anni aveva cambiato lavoro, mettendosi in proprio. Il 2 agosto con un amico era diretto a Palermo da dove avrebbe iniziato un breve vacanza sul mare verso la Tunisia. Non avendo trovato posto in aereo pensarono di prendere il treno. Lo scoppio li colse in stazione e Vincenzo rimase gravemente ferito. Fu trasportato al policlinico Sant’Orsola dove dopo quattordici giorni morì per una sopraggiunta infezione polmonare.

Vincenzo, 34 years old, was born in Malè, in the province of Trento and lived in Ferrara. He was married and had started his own company. On the 2nd of August he was going with a friend to Palermo, from which he would have left for a short sea vacation in Tunisia. Not having found a plane ticket, they thought to take the train. The explosion hit them inside the station and Vincenzo was severely injured. He was transported to Sant'Orsola Polyclinic where he died 14 days later because of a lung infection.

Natalia Agostini in Gallon

Natalia, 40 anni, era di Bologna e lavorava come operaia alla Ducati Elettronica ed aveva due figli. Il 2 agosto era in stazione con il marito e con la figlia Manuela di 11 anni. Aspettavano il treno che avrebbe portato Manuela alla colonia estiva di Dobbiaco, in provincia di Bolzano. I tre si trovavano vicino alla sala d’attesa e il marito si allontanò per comprare le sigarette. Proprio in quell’istante scoppiò la bomba, il marito rimase ferito non gravemente mentre Natalia e la figlia Manuela furono travolte dalle macerie e ferite molto seriamente. Furono entrambe portate in ospedale in pericolo di vita: Natalia mori qualche giorno dopo mentre si stavano svolgendo le esequie di Manuela.

Natalia, 40 years old, was born in Bologna. She worked at Ducati Elettronica and she had two children. On the 2nd of August, she was at the train station with her husband and Manuela, her 11-year-old daughter. They were waiting for the train that would have taken Manuela to summer camp in Dobbiaco, in the province of Bolzano. The three were near the waiting room and her husband left to buy cigarettes. In that instant the bomb exploded; her husband was injured, but not severely, while Natalia and her daughter Manuela were crushed by rubble and were seriously wounded. They were both brought to the hospital in critical condition; Natalia died a few days later while Manuela's funeral was taking place.

Manuela Gallon

Manuela, 11 anni, era di Bologna, aveva superato gli esami di quinta elementare e si preparava ad affrontare le scuole medie. I genitori l’avevano accompagnata in stazione e stavano attendendo il treno che l’avrebbe portata alla colonia estiva di Dobbiaco, in provincia di Bolzano dove avrebbe dovuto trascorrere due settimane di vacanza. I tre si trovavano vicino alla sala d’attesa e il padre si allontanò per comprare le sigarette. Proprio in quell’istante scoppiò la bomba: Manuela rimase gravemente ferita, fu ritrovata e portata in coma all’ospedale dove morì 5 giorni dopo. La mamma morì e il padre rimase ferito.

Manuela, 11 years old, was born in Bologna. She had finished primary school and was preparing to go to middle school/junior high school. Her parents had accompanied her to the station and they were waiting for the train that would have taken Manuela to a two week summer camp in Dobbiaco, in the province of Bolzano. The three were near the waiting room and her dad left to buy cigarettes. In that instant, the bomb exploded; her dad was injured, but not severely, while she and her mom were crushed by rubble and seriously wounded. They were both brought to the hospital in critical condition. Manuela had been transported to the hospital while she was in a coma and she died 5 days later. Her mother died and her father remained alive, but injured.

Pier Francesco Laurenti

Pier Francesco, 44 anni, era nato a Berceto, in provincia di Parma, aveva una sorella ed era laureato in giurisprudenza, viveva a Parma e lavorava a Padova nelle assicurazioni. Il 2 agosto, dopo aver trascorso una vacanza sulla riviera romagnola, stava tornando a casa. Durante una sosta del treno a Bologna decise di scendere per fare una telefonata ad un amico, avvertendolo del suo arrivo. Finita la telefonata, mentre stava ritornando sul treno, lo scoppio della bomba lo ha ucciso.

Pier Francesco, 44 years old, was born in Berceto, in the province of Parma. He had a sister, had a law degree, lived in Parma, and worked in Padova for an insurance company. On the 2nd of August, after spending a holiday on the Adriatic Coast, he was going home. During a long stop in Bologna, he decided to get off the train to make a phone call to a friend, to let him know of his arrival. While he was returning to the train, having finished his call, the bomb blast killed him.

Angelo Priore

Angelo, 26 anni, era nato a Malles Venosta in provincia di Bolzano, si era trasferito a Messina dove svolgeva il mestiere di ottico. Il 2 agosto era in viaggio per raggiungere moglie e figlio di 14 mesi che erano già in vacanza a Pelos nel Cadore, assieme a lui viaggiavano anche i suoceri. Decisero di aspettare il treno in sala d’aspetto, Angelo leggeva una rivista mentre i suoceri uscirono a fare due passi. Lo scoppio della bomba ferì molto gravemente Angelo al volto e alla testa mentre i suoceri si salvarono. Iniziarono mesi di ricovero ospedaliero, di interventi chirurgici e di forti dolori causati dalle ustioni ma le cure mediche furono inutili ed Angelo spirò l’11 novembre 1980 .

Angelo, 26 years old, was born in Malles Venosta in the province of Bolzano and had moved to Messina where he worked as optician. On the 2nd of August, he was travelling, along with his in-laws, to reach his wife and 14-month-old son who were already on holiday in Pelos (Cadore). They decided to wait for the train in the waiting room; Angelo read a magazine while his in-laws stepped out to take a walk. The bomb blast severely injured Angelo’s face and head while his in-laws were saved. Thus began the months of being in the hospital, of operations, and of severe pain caused by the burns… but ultimately medical care was useless and Angelo died on November 11th, 1980.

Pio Carmine Remollino

Pio Carmine, 31 anni, era nato a Bella, in provincia di Potenza. Orfano di madre, aveva vissuto con il padre settantacinquenne, la matrigna e otto fratelli a Baragiano. A 18 anni era partito per la Germania con quattro dei suoi fratelli, due anni dopo tornò in Italia per fare il servizio militare, terminato il quale aveva iniziato a spostarsi lungo la penisola cercando lavoro. Nel 1976 si era trasferito a Ravenna e svolgeva lavori saltuari come muratore o cameriere. Un uomo di poche parole, viaggiava da solo, dava raramente notizie di sé. Non sappiamo esattamente come mai era in stazione il 2 agosto quando la bomba lo uccise.

Pio Carmine, 31 years old, was born in Bella, in the province of Potenza. Having previously lost his mother, he had lived with his seventy-six-year-old father, his stepmother and eight brothers in Baragiano. At the age of 18 he left for Germany with four of his brothers; two years later he returned to Italy for his national service, after which he began to move along the peninsula looking for a job. In 1976, he moved to Ravenna where he worked as a bricklayer and a waiter. A man of a few words, who traveled alone, he rarely gave news to his family about himself. We do not know exactly why he was inside the station on the 2nd of August when the bomb killed him.

Flavia Casadei

Flavia, 18 anni, aveva frequentato la quarta liceo scientifico Serpieri a Rimini e si preparava ad affrontare l’ultimo anno di scuola superiore. Era partita da casa per raggiungere Brescia dove l’attendeva uno zio. Doveva prendere un treno a Bologna ma il ritardo del convoglio su cui era salita a Rimini le fece perdere la coincidenza. Decise così, assieme ad una ragazza di Cento (Ferrara), conosciuta durante il viaggio, di entrare in sala d’aspetto. Lo scoppio della bomba le colse lì: Flavia mori, mentre la ragazza di Cento si salvò seppur sepolta sotto le macerie.

Flavia, 18 years old, had finished her fourth year at Serpieri High School in Rimini and was preparing to attend her last year of high school. She was leaving home to go to Brescia where an uncle was waiting for her. She had to catch a train in Bologna, but the train she was travelling on from Rimini was not on time and she missed her connection. She decided, along with a girl from Cento (Ferrara) who she had met during the trip, to enter the waiting room. The explosion hit her there; Flavia died, while the girl from Cento survived, even though she had been buried under the rubble.

Eckhardt Mäder

Eckhardt, 14 anni, viveva ad Haselhorf in Westfalia ed era venuto in Italia con i suoi genitori e i due fratelli per trascorrere una vacanza al Lido di Pomposa, in provincia di Ferrara. Il 2 agosto era in stazione con tutta la famiglia perché, arrivati da Ferrara, aspettavano il treno per tornare a casa, in Germania. Alle dieci e venticinque Eckhardt e i due fratelli erano in sala d’aspetto con la mamma, mentre il padre, avendo l’intenzione di occupare le due ore di attesa per vedere Bologna, stava per uscire dalla stazione. Lo scoppio uccise Eckhardt, il fratello Kai e la mamma Margret. Rimasero feriti l’altro fratello e il padre che scavando fra le macerie riuscì a ritrovare i suoi cari.

Eckhardt, 14 years old, lived in Haselhorf in Westphalia and came to Italy with his parents and two brothers to spend a holiday at Lido di Pomposa, in the province of Ferrara. On the 2nd of August, he was inside the station with all of his family because, having arrived from Ferrara, they were waiting for the train to return home, to Germany. At 10:25, Eckhardt and his two brothers were in the waiting room with their mother, while their father, who had intended to occupy the two hours of waiting with seeing Bologna, was about to leave the station. The explosion killed Eckhardt, his brother Kai and their mother Margret. His other brother and his father were both wounded; the father, digging through the rubble, managed to find his loved ones.

Margret, 39 anni, viveva ad Haselhorf in Westfalia con il marito e i tre figli ed era venuta in Italia con tutta la famiglia per trascorrere una vacanza al Lido di Pomposa, in provincia di Ferrara. Il 2 agosto era in stazione perché, arrivati da Ferrara, aspettavano il treno per tornare a casa, in Germania. Alle dieci e venticinque Margret con i figli era in sala d’aspetto, mentre il marito, avendo l’intenzione di occupare le due ore di attesa per vedere Bologna, stava per uscire dalla stazione. Lo scoppio la uccise assieme ai due figli Kai di 8 anni e Eckhardt di 14 anni. Rimasero feriti l’altro figlio di 16 anni e il marito che scavando fra le macerie riuscì a ritrovare i suoi cari.

Margret, 39 years old, lived in Haselhorf in Westphalia with her husband and three children and had come to Italy with the whole family to spend a holiday in Lido di Pomposa, in the province of Ferrara. On the 2nd of August, she was inside the station with all of her family because, having arrived from Ferrara, they were waiting for the train to return home, to Germany. At 10:25 Margret and her sons were in the waiting room, while her husband, who had intended to occupy the two hours of waiting with seeing Bologna, was about to leave the station. The explosion killed Margret and two  of her sons: 8 year old Kai and 14 year old Eckhardt. Her 16 year old son and her husband were both wounded; the father, digging in the rubble, managed to find his loved ones.

Kai Mäder

Kai, 8 anni, viveva ad Haselhorf in Westfalia ed era venuto in Italia con i suoi genitori e i due fratelli per trascorrere una vacanza al Lido di Pomposa, in provincia di Ferrara. Il 2 agosto era in stazione con tutta la famiglia perché, arrivati da Ferrara, aspettavano il treno per tornare a casa, in Germania. Alle dieci e venticinque Kai e i due fratelli erano in sala d’aspetto con la mamma, mentre il padre avendo l’intenzione di occupare le due ore di attesa per vedere Bologna, stava per uscire dalla stazione. Lo scoppio uccise Kai, il fratello Eckhardt e la mamma Margret. Rimasero feriti l’altro fratello e il padre che scavando fra le macerie riuscì a ritrovare i suoi cari.

Kai, 8 years old, lived in Haselhorf in Westphalia and came to Italy with his parents and two brothers to spend a holiday in Lido di Pomposa, in the province of Ferrara. On the 2nd of August, he was inside the station with all of his family because, having arrived from Ferrara, they were waiting for the train to return home, to Germany. At 10:25 Kai and his two brothers were in the waiting room with their mother, while their father, who had intended to occupy the two hours of waiting with seeing Bologna, was about to leave the station. The explosion killed Kai, his brother Eckhardt and their mother Margret. The other brother and his father were both wounded; the father, digging in the rubble, managed to find his loved ones.

Onofrio Zappalà

Onofrio, 27 anni, era nato a Santa Teresa di Riva, in provincia di Messina e aveva due sorelle. Finito il liceo classico, si era iscritto alla facoltà di lettere, ma aveva lasciato al secondo anno per cercarsi un lavoro. Si era innamorato di Ingeborg, una maestra danese di 22 anni, conosciuta un’estate al mare a Sant’Alessio siculo dove Onofrio risiedeva con i genitori. L’aveva raggiunta a Copenaghen dove pensava di stabilirsi, ma venne chiamato in Italia perchè assunto alle Ferrovie dello Stato. Il 2 agosto era in stazione a Bologna con due colleghi ed aspettavano un treno per lo scalo di San Donato. I colleghi decisero di uscire, mentre Onofrio rimase sul marciapiede del primo binario dove lo scoppio lo uccise. Il 3 agosto Onofrio avrebbe dovuto incontrare Ingeborg a Bologna.

Onofrio, 27 years old, was born in Santa Teresa di Riva, in the province of Messina, and had two sisters. When he finished high school, he enrolled in the faculty of Literature, but he had to leave after the second year to search for a job. He had fallen in love with Ingeborg, a 22 year old Danish teacher he had met during a summer holiday in Sant'Alessio Siculo where Onofrio lived with his parents. He had arrived in Copenhagen where he was planning on staying, but was called back to Italy because he had been hired by the National Railways. On the 2nd of August, he was in Bologna Station with two colleagues and they were waiting for a train to San Donato. His colleagues decided to leave, while Onofrio remained on the platform of the first track where the explosion killed him. Onofrio would have been reunited with Ingeborg in Bologna on August 3^rd.

Vincenzina Sala in Zanetti

Vicenzina, 50 anni, era nata a Pavia ma risiedeva da molti anni a Bologna. Il 2 agosto era alla stazione col marito, con i consuoceri e con il nipotino di sei anni ad aspettare l’arrivo di sua figlia e di suo genero che provenivano dalla Svizzera. Il treno era in ritardo e si misero ad aspettare sul marciapiede del primo binario. Lo scoppio della bomba uccise Vicenzina, ferì il marito, la consuocera e molto gravemente il nipotino.

Vincenzina, 50 years old, was born in Pavia but had lived in Bologna for many years. On the 2nd of August, she was at the station with her husband, her in laws, and her six year old grandson waiting for her daughter and her son-in-law to arrive from Switzerland. The train was late and they waited on the platform of the first track. The bomb’s explosion killed Vincenzina, wounded her husband and her daughter’s mother in law, and very seriously injured her grandson.

Elisabetta Manea – vedova De Marchi

Elisabetta, 60 anni, era di Marano Vicentino dove, alla morte del marito avvenuta nel 1970, era rimasta con i suoi quattro figli. Il 2 agosto aveva da poco terminato la convalescenza dopo un intervento chirurgico ed era in stazione con Roberto, il più giovane dei suoi figli che aveva 21 anni ed era un promettente pallavolista. Madre e figlio erano partiti di buon mattino con meta la Puglia: un lungo viaggio per andare a trovare alcuni parenti. La prima tappa era Bologna dove avrebbero dovuto prendere una coincidenza. Arrivati in stazione decisero di non uscire, ma attendere il treno in sala d’aspetto e fu proprio qui che l’esplosione colse Elisabetta, mentre il figlio era sul marciapiede del primo binario. Morirono entrambi.

Elisabetta, 60 years old, was born in Marano Vicentino where, after the death of her husband in 1970, she remained with her four children. On the 2nd of August, she had just finished recovering from a surgery and was in Bologna station with the youngest of her sons, Roberto, who was 21 years old and a promising volleyball player. Mother and son left home early on the 2nd of August to go to Puglia; a long journey to pay a visit to some relatives. The first stop of the trip was Bologna where they would have to change trains. When they arrived at the station they decided not to go out, but to wait for the train in the waiting room; it was here that the blast hit Elisabetta. Roberto had been walking on the platform of the first track when the explosion hit him. Both mother and son were killed.

Roberto De Marchi

Roberto, 21 anni, era rimasto orfano di padre nel 1970, la sua famiglia, composta da altri tre fratelli e dalla mamma Elisabetta viveva a Marano Vicentino. Roberto era il fratello più piccolo, era un valente e promettente pallavolista che militava nella Volley Sottoriva. Madre e figlio erano partiti da casa il 2 agosto di buon mattino con meta la Puglia: un lungo viaggio per andare a trovare alcuni parenti. La prima tappa era Bologna dove avrebbero dovuto prendere una coincidenza. Arrivati in stazione decisero di non uscire, ma di attendere il treno in sala d’aspetto. Roberto passeggiava sul marciapiede del primo binario quando l’esplosione causò il crollo della pensilina che lo travolse e lo uccise. La mamma fu uccisa nella sala d’aspetto.

Roberto, 21 years old, had lost his father in 1970 and he and his family, three brothers and his mother Elisabetta, lived in Marano Vicentino. Roberto was the youngest son and was a promising volleyball player who played in the Sottoriva Volleyball. Mother and son left home early on the 2nd of August to go to Puglia; a long journey to pay a visit to some relatives. The first stop of the trip was Bologna where they would have to change trains. When they arrived at the station they decided not to go out, but to wait for the train in the waiting room. Roberto was walking along the platform of the first track when the explosion caused the collapse of the roof that crushed and killed him. His mother was killed in the waiting room.

Rosina Barbaro in Montani

Rosina, 58 anni, era di Bologna, era sposata ed aveva una figlia e in agosto avrebbe festeggiato il 40° anniversario di matrimonio. Il 2 agosto stava partendo con il marito per trascorrere una vacanza sulla riviera adriatica: avevano deciso di prendere il treno, declinando l’invito della figlia ad essere accompagnati in auto. Erano sul marciapiede del primo binario e, mano nella mano, stavano andando verso il bar quando furono travolti dalle macerie causate dallo scoppio della bomba. Il marito rimase ferito e Rosina morì.

Rosina, 58 years old, was born in Bologna. She was married and she had a daughter. In August she would have celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary. On the 2nd of August, she was leaving with her husband to spend a holiday on the Adriatic coast; they had decided to take the train, declining their daughter’s invitation to be taken by car. They were on the platform of the first track and they were walking, hand in hand, to the bar when they were hit by the debris from the bomb blast. Her husband was injured and Rosina died.

Mauro Alganon

Mauro, 22 anni, era di Asti, viveva in casa con i genitori pensionati, lavorava come commesso in una libreria, era l’ultimo di tre figli ed era appassionato di fotografia. Era partito di prima mattina dal Piemonte con un amico per andare a Venezia. Occorreva cambiare a Bologna, ma un ritardo del treno fece sì che i ragazzi perdessero la coincidenza. Per questo motivo entrarono in sala d’aspetto. Era molto caldo e a turno i due amici uscivano a prendere un po’ d’aria. Alle 10, 25 Mauro era rimasto seduto a custodire i bagagli leggendo un giornale quando lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise. L’amico che era uscito si salvò.

Mauro, 22 years old, was from Asti. He lived in the same house with his retired parents and worked as a bookkeeper [clerk in a bookstore?]. He was the youngest of three children and was passionate about photography. He had started his journey early in the morning from Piedmont with a friend to go to Venice. It was necessary to change trains in Bologna, but a delay in their train made the boys miss their connection; that's why they went into the waiting room. It was very hot inside and they alternated stepping out to get some fresh air. At 10:25 Mauro had been seated looking after their luggage while reading a newspaper when the bomb blast killed him. His friend, who had stepped out, was spared.

Francesco Betti

Francesco. 44 anni, era un taxista originario di Marzabotto. Viveva con la moglie e il figlio di 2 anni a S. Lazzaro di Savena in provincia di Bologna. Il 2 agosto 1980 era in servizio davanti alla stazione di Bologna e si trovava con il suo taxi a circa trenta metri dal luogo dove era posizionata la bomba. Un masso lo ha colpito alla nuca ed è morto immediatamente.

Francesco, 44 years old, was a taxi driver from Marzabotto. He lived with his wife and their 2-year-old son in S. Lazzaro di Savena in the province of Bologna. On the 2nd of August, he was on duty in front of Bologna Station and he was waiting inside his taxi about thirty meters from the place where the bomb was located. A large piece of debris struck him on the back of the neck and he died instantly.

Vincenzo Lanconelli

Vincenzo, 51 anni, era nato a Cotignola in provincia di Ravenna, viveva a Bagnacavallo, era celibe ed aveva due sorelle e un fratello. Era stato Ispettore del lavoro a Forlì ed aveva ricoperto l’incarico di Segretario dell’Ispettorato del Lavoro di Ravenna. Andato in pensione, si era iscritto alla Facoltà di Giurisprudenza di Bologna per conseguire una seconda laurea così da aprire uno studio di consulenza con altri colleghi. Il 2 agosto voleva assistere ad uno spettacolo lirico all’Arena, lo scoppio della bomba lo sorprese nella sala d’aspetto dove era in attesa di un treno per recarsi a Verona.

Vincenzo, 51 years old, was born in Cotignola, in the province of Ravenna and lived in Bagnacavallo. He was single and had two sisters and one brother. He had been a Work Inspector in Forlì and had served as Secretary of the Work Inspectorate of Ravenna. After he retired, he enrolled in the law school in Bologna to pursue a second degree with the goal of opening a consulting firm with other colleagues. On the 2nd of August, he wanted to see the Opera at the Arena di Verona; the explosion of the bomb surprised him in the waiting room where he was waiting for a train to go to Verona.

Salvatore Lauro

Salvatore, 57 anni, era di Acerra, era un maresciallo dell’aereonautica e risiedeva a Brusciano, in provincia di Napoli. Di qui era partito con la moglie Velia il venerdì primo agosto. La loro meta era Scorzè, in provincia di Venezia in cui si celebrava il funerale del consuocero. A Bologna dovevano cambiare treno, ma il convoglio su cui viaggiavano era arrivato in ritardo e quindi persero la coincidenza. La bomba scoppiò mentre aspettavano il treno successivo e li uccise entrambi lasciando orfani i loro sette figli, di cui due molto giovani.

Salvatore, 57 years old, was born in Acerra. He was a Marshal of Aircraft and lived in Brusciano, in the province of Naples. It was from there that he left with his wife, Velia, on Friday, August 1st. Their destination was Scorzé, in the province of Venice, where the funeral of their son's father-in-law was being held. They had to change their train in Bologna, but the convoy on which they traveled arrived late and they missed their connection. The bomb exploded as they waited for the next train and killed them both, leaving their seven children, two of whom were very young, orphans.

Velia Carli in Lauro

Velia, 50 anni, era nata a Tivoli, era titolare di una piccola impresa artigiana di maglieria e risiedeva a Brusciano, in provincia di Napoli. Di qui era partita con il marito Salvatore il venerdì primo agosto. La loro meta era Scorzè, in provincia di Venezia in cui si celebrava il funerale del consuocero. A Bologna dovevano cambiare treno, ma il convoglio su cui viaggiavano era arrivato in ritardo e quindi persero la coincidenza. La bomba scoppiò mentre aspettavano il treno successivo e li uccise entrambi lasciando orfani i loro sette figli, di cui due molto giovani.

Velia, 50 years old, was born in Tivoli where[CH1]  she owned a small handicraft company. She lived in Brusciano, in the province of Naples. It was from there that she left with her husband, Salvatore, on Friday, August 1st. Their destination was Scorzé, in the province of Venice, where the funeral of their son's father-in-law was being held. They had to change their train in Bologna, but the convoy on which they traveled arrived late and they missed their connection. The bomb exploded as they waited for the next train and killed them both, leaving their seven children, two of whom

were very young, orphans.

Pietro Galassi

Pietro, 66 anni, era nato nella Repubblica di San Marino, aveva una sorella e si era laureato in matematica e fisica. Prima di andare in pensione aveva insegnato in una scuola di Viareggio di cui in seguito era diventato preside. Non sappiamo perché il 2 agosto fosse in stazione dove la bomba lo uccise.

Pietro, 66 years old, was born in the Republic of San Marino. He had a sister and a degree in mathematics and physics. Before retiring he had taught at a school in Viareggio, where he later became headmaster. We do not know why he was inside the station on the 2nd of August when the bomb killed him.

Rossella Marceddu

Rossella, 19 anni, viveva con i genitori e la sorella a Prarolo, in provincia di Vercelli, e studiava per diventare assistente sociale. Aveva appena trascorso alcuni giorni di vacanza con il padre e la sorella al Lido degli Estensi. Aveva deciso di rientrare a casa per raggiungere il fidanzato. Inizialmente, con l’amica che l’accompagnava, avevano pensato di fare il viaggio in moto, poi scelsero il treno ritenendolo più sicuro. La mattina del 2 agosto erano sul marciapiede del quarto binario ad aspettare il treno diretto a Milano, siccome faceva molto caldo Rossella decise di andare a prender qualcosa da bere. La bomba scoppiò mentre la ragazza stava andando al bar e la uccise. L’amica rimasta sul quarto binario si salvò.

Rossella, 19 years old, lived with her parents and sister in Prarolo, in the Vercelli Province, and was studying to become a social worker. She had just spent a few days on holiday with her father and sister at Lido degli Estensi. She had decided to return home to join her boyfriend. Initially, she and her accompanying friend had thought of travelling by motorcycle, but decided to take the train, feeling it was safer. On the 2nd of August, they were on the fourth platform waiting for a train to Milan. As it was very hot that day, Rossella decided to go and get something to drink. The bomb exploded as the girl was going to the bar and killed her. The friend on the platform was spared.

Roberto Gaiola

Roberto, 25 anni, era di Vicenza ed aveva una sorella. A undici anni, dopo aver conseguito il diploma di scuola elementare, era andato a lavorare in fabbrica. Dopo un periodo piuttosto turbolento della sua vita era entrato in un programma di disintossicazione che si svolgeva all’ospedale Maggiore di Bologna, intraprendendo un percorso che era anche di aiuto per altri che si trovavano in difficoltà. Così faceva sovente il viaggio da Vicenza a Bologna. All’inizio del 1980 subì anche la dolorosa perdita del padre. Il 2 agosto partì molto presto da casa, si recò al Maggiore e alle 10,25 era nuovamente in stazione ad aspettare il treno che lo avrebbe riportato a casa. Fu durante l’attesa che la bomba lo uccise.

Roberto, 25 years old, was born in Vicenza and had a sister. At eleven, right after finishing primary school, he went to work at a local factory. After a rather turbulent period of his life, he entered a detox program at Maggiore Hospital in Bologna, embarking on a path that would also be helpful for others who were going through similar troubles; thus, he often travelled from Vicenza to Bologna. At the beginning of 1980 he also suffered the painful loss of his father. On the 2nd of August, he left home very early; he went to Maggiore Hospital and at 10:25 he was back at the station. While waiting for his train, the bomb killed him.

Angelica Tarsi in Sacrati

Angelica, 72 anni, era marchigiana ma viveva da molti anni a Bologna con il figlio, la nuora e i tre nipoti. Era in stazione perché doveva partire con il nipotino più piccolo alla volta di Ostra (Ancona), dove avrebbero trascorso un periodo di vacanza a casa di sua sorella. Suo figlio e la nuora Loredana li avevano accompagnati: non avendo trovato parcheggio il figlio restò ad aspettare in auto e la nuora li accompagnò all’interno della stazione. L’esplosione li sorprese sul marciapiede del primo binario. Angelica e la nuora morirono sul colpo, il nipote rimase gravemente ferito.

Angelica, 72 years old, was from the Le Marche Region. She lived in Bologna with her son, daughter in law and three grandchildren. She was at the station because had to leave with the smallest grandson to Ostra (Ancona) where they would have spent a holiday at her sister's home. Her son and daughter in law, Loredana, had accompanied them; not having found a place to park the car, her son decided to wait in the car while her daughter in law accompanied them inside the station. The explosion took them by surprise on the platform of the first track. Angelica and her daughter-in-law died from the impact; her grandson was severely injured.

Loredana Molina in Sacrati

Loredana, 44 anni, era di Bologna e il 2 agosto assieme al marito avevano accompagnato in stazione il figlio minore e Angelica Tarsi, sua suocera, che dovevano partire per le vacanze. Il marito, non avendo trovato parcheggio, aspettava in macchina che Loredana comprasse i biglietti ed accompagnasse nonna e nipote al treno. L’esplosione li colse sul marciapiede del primo binario dove Loredana stava guadando i tabelloni con gli orari delle partenze. Lei e la suocera morirono sul colpo, suo figlio rimase gravemente ferito.

Loredana, 44 years old, was born in Bologna, and on the 2nd of August, along with her husband, accompanied her youngest son and her mother-in-law, Angelica Tarsi, to the train station as they had to leave for holidays. Her husband, having not found a place to park the car, waited outside the station. Loredana bought the tickets and took Angelica and her son to the train. The explosion hit them on the first platform where Loredana had been looking at the departure timetables. She and her mother-in-law were killed by the blow, while her son was severely injured.

Brigitte Drouhard

Brigitte, 21 anni, era nata a Saules, in Francia, risiedeva a Parigi, faceva l’impiegata e aveva una passione per la poesia e per la letteratura italiana. Il 2 agosto era in stazione a Bologna perché stava aspettando un treno che avrebbe dovuto portarla a Ravenna. La bomba la uccise durante l’attesa.

Brigitte, 21 years old, was born in Saules, France. She lived in Paris, was an office worker, and she had a passion for poetry and for Italian literature. On the 2nd of August, she was inside the Bologna station because she was waiting for a train that would have taken her to Ravenna. The bomb killed her while she was waiting.

Carla Gozzi

Carla, 36 anni, abitava coi genitori a Concordia in provincia di Modena ed era impiegata in un maglificio. Assieme al fidanzato Umberto Lugli di 38 anni aveva organizzato un viaggio alle isole Tremiti. Erano stati accompagnati in stazione con largo anticipo dal fratello di Umberto che poi tornò indietro. La bomba sorprese i due fidanzati che aspettavano il treno e li uccise.

Carla, 36 years old, lived with her parents in Concordia in the province of Modena. She was employed in a textile factory. She had arranged a trip to the Le Tremiti Islands, along with her 38 year old boyfriend, Umberto Lugli. They had been accompanied to the station by Umberto's brother, who then returned home. The bomb surprised the two lovers while they were waiting for the train and killed them both.

Umberto Lugli

Umberto, 38 anni, era di Carpi dove aveva aperto con il fratello una merceria. Assieme alla fidanzata Carla Gozzi di 36 anni aveva organizzato un viaggio alle isole Tremiti. Erano stati accompagnati in stazione con largo anticipo dal fratello che tornò a Carpi per aprire il negozio. La bomba sorprese i due fidanzati che aspettavano il treno e li uccise.

Umberto, 38 years old, was born in Carpi where he had opened a haberdashery with his brother. He had arranged a trip to the Le Tremiti islands, along with his 36 year old girlfriend, Carla Gozzi. They had been accompanied to the station by his brother, who then returned home. The bomb surprised the two lovers who were waiting for the train and killed them both.

Francisco Gomez Martinez

Francisco (Paco), 23 anni, era catalano, aveva due sorelle e lavorava come impiegato in una azienda tessile di Sentmenat, in provincia di Barcellona dove era nato e dove viveva con la madre e una delle sorelle. Aveva cominciato a lavorare a 16 anni, era appassionato di arte e di pallacanestro, sport che praticava. Era anche attivo nel tessuto associativo culturale del suo paese. Tutto l’anno risparmiava i soldi per poter fare qualche viaggio d’estate. Era partito da casa il 29 luglio con l’intenzione di visitare diverse città europee. Nel suo viaggio in treno conobbe un ragazzo catalano e con lui decise di fermarsi qualche giorno a Bologna. Il 2 agosto i due ragazzi si trovavano seduti nella sala di aspetto in attesa di un treno che li avrebbe portati a Rimini. Per ingannare l’attesa Paco scriveva alla fidanzata: nella lettera immaginava assieme a lei le ferie dell’anno successivo. Lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise, mentre l’amico che era con lui rimase ferito.

Francisco (Paco), 23 years old, was Catalan and had two sisters. He worked as a clerk in a textile company in Sentmenat, in the province of Barcelona where he was born and where he lived with his mother and one of his sisters. He had started working at the age of 16 and was fond of art and basketball, a sport which he played. He was also active with cultural association in his country. He saved money all year long for some summer travelling. He left home on July 29^th with the intention of visiting several European cities. During his journey, he met another boy from Catalan and they decided to stop in Bologna for a few days. On the 2nd of August, the two boys were sitting in the waiting room waiting for a train to Rimini. To pass the time, Paco wrote to his girlfriend; in the letter, he imagined spending the holidays with her the following year. The bomb blast  killed him while his friend was hurt.

Maria Idria Avati in Gurgo

Maria, 80 anni, abitava a Rossano Calabro da dove era partita per recarsi in Trentino. Avrebbe voluto partire di mattina, per poter guardare il panorama dai finestrini, ma accettò la proposta di viaggiare di notte assieme alla figlia. Il treno su cui erano madre e figlia era in ritardo di due ore e arrivò alla stazione di Bologna solo verso le dieci. Maria Idria si sedette in sala d’aspetto e la figlia si incamminò verso la toilette per rinfrescarsi un po’ dopo il lungo viaggio. L’esplosione travolse Maria Idria che fu gravemente ferita. La figlia ritornò sui suoi passi, trovò la madre ancora in vita, l’aiutò a salire sull’ambulanza. Il ricovero all’ospedale Maggiore non riuscì a salvarla.

Maria, 80 years old, lived in Rossano Calabro from which she left to go to the Trentino Region. She had wanted to travel during the day so that she would be able to watch the panorama from the windows, but in the end she accepted the proposal to travel with her daughter at night. The train on which mother and daughter traveled was two hours late and arrived in Bologna Station at ten o'clock. Maria Idria sat in the waiting room and her daughter walked to the toilet after the long journey. The explosion hit Maria Idria, who was seriously injured. Her daughter retraced her steps, found her mother still alive, and helped her up in to the ambulance. Medical care at Maggiore Hospital was unsuccessful and Maria Idria passed away.

Nazzareno Basso

Nazzareno, 33 anni, era di Numana, nelle Marche, aveva quattro figli e lavorava a Milazzo. Nel 1978, quando era carabiniere ausiliario a Chioggia, incontrò la sua futura moglie. Il 2 agosto Nazzareno era in stazione a Bologna, perchè, provenendo dalla Sicilia, stava andando a casa dei suoceri, a Caltana, nel veneziano, dove era la sua famiglia. Il treno con il quale doveva fare l’ultima parte del suo viaggio era in ritardo. Dopo aver telefonato per avvertire dell’inconveniente, entrò in sala d’aspetto dove lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise.

Nazzareno, 33 years old, was from Numana (Le Marche Region). He had four children and worked in Milazzo. In 1978, while he was doing his national service as a Carabiniere in Chioggia, he met his future wife. On the 2nd of August, Nazzareno was waiting in Bologna because, traveling from Sicily, he was going to the house of his father-in-law, in Caltana, near to Venice, where his family was. The train with which he had planned to make the last part of his trip was late. After calling his wife to let her know about the inconvenience, he went into the waiting room where the bomb blast killed him.

Davide Caprioli

Davide, 20 anni, era di Verona dove viveva con i genitori, frequentava il primo anno di economia e commercio, voleva diventare commercialista e la sua passione era la musica: suonava la chitarra e cantava. Aveva trascorso un periodo di vacanze ad Ancona, presso la sorella. Sabato 2 agosto era ripartito perché la sera stessa doveva suonare con il suo complesso, il Dna group, e poi voleva riprendere a studiare. Era in stazione a Bologna in attesa di una coincidenza e stava guardando il tabellone con gli orari dei treni. Lo scoppio della bomba lo ferì molto gravemente, fu trasportato all’ospedale Maggiore in rianimazione dove morì 2 ore dopo il ricovero.

Davide, 20 years old, was born in Verona where he lived with his parents. He was attending his first year at University (Business economy) and wanted to become a fiscal expert. He was passionate about music; he played the guitar and also sang. He had spent a vacation in Ancona at her sister’s place. On the 2nd of August, he left her house, as that night he had to play with his band, the Dna group, and then he wanted to continue studying. He was in Bologna Station waiting for a connection and was watching the timetable. The blast of the bomb seriously injured him; he was transported to Maggiore Hospital where he died 2 hours after being checked in.

Patrizia Messineo

Patrizia Messineo, 18 anni, era di Bari e si era appena diplomata in ragioneria. Era in stazione con la madre, la sorella Sonia Burri, i nonni materni e zia Silvana- la sorella della mamma - e le cugine. Lo scoppio la sorprese in sala d’aspetto. La bomba la uccise assieme alla sorella e alla zia.

Patrizia Messineo, 18 years old, was born in Bari and had just graduated in accounting. She was in the waiting room with her mother, her sister Sonia Burri, her maternal grandparents and her Aunt Silvana - her mother's sister - and her cousins. The bomb killed her along with her sister and aunt. 

Silvana Serravalli in Barbera

Silvana, 34 anni, era di Bari, insegnava presso una scuola elementare di quella città ed aveva compiuto gli anni il primo agosto. Alle 10,25 del 2 agosto era al bar ubicato di fianco alla sala d’aspetto con le figlie. In stazione con lei c’erano i genitori, il cognato e la sorella accompagnata dalle due figlie. Lo scoppio la ferì molto gravemente e morì cinque giorni dopo all’ospedale. La bomba la uccise assieme a Patrizia Messineo e Sonia Burri, le figlie della sorella.

Silvana, 34 years old, was born in Bari. She was a teacher at a primary school in that city and had celebrated her birthday just the day before. At 10.25 she was at the bar near the waiting room with her daughters. She was there with her parents, her brother-in-law, her sister, and her sister’s two daughters. The explosion injured her very seriously and she died five days later at the hospital. The bomb killed her and Patrizia Messineo and Sonia Burri, her sister's daughters.

Sonia Burri

Sonia, 7 anni, era partita da Bari con i genitori e il 2 agosto era in stazione con loro e con i nonni materni, la sorella Patrizia Messineo, zia Silvana - la sorella della mamma - e le cugine. Lo scoppio la sorprese in sala d’aspetto: i soccorritori la trovarono viva ma in gravissime condizioni vicino alla sua bambola rossa. Morì in ospedale due giorni dopo. La bomba la uccise assieme alla sorella e alla zia.

Sonia, 7 years old, had left Bari with her parents and on the 2nd of August she was at the Bologna Station with them and her maternal grandparents, her sister Patrizia Messineo, her Aunt Silvana, and her cousins. The bomb explosion caught her by surprise in the waiting room: the rescuers found her alive but in very bad condition near her red doll. She died in hospital two days later. The bomb killed her and her sister and aunt.

Gaetano Roda

Gaetano, 31 anni, era nato a San Bartolomeo, era orfano di padre e viveva a Mirabello in provincia di Ferrara con la madre e il fratello. Aveva fatto il rappresentante ed era appena stato assunto dalle Ferrovie. Il 2 agosto stava frequentando un corso alla stazione di Bologna e durante una pausa pensò di andare al bar. Alle 10,25 era sul marciapiede nei pressi della sala d’aspetto: l’onda d’urto causata dallo scoppio della bomba lo gettò contro il treno in sosta sul primo binario e lo uccise.

Gaetano, 31 years old, was born in San Bartolomeo. He lost his father and lived in Mirabello in the province of Ferrara with his mother and brother. He worked as a sales representative and had just been hired by the national railways. On the 2nd of August, he was attending a course at Bologna Station and during a break he thought to go to the bar. At 10.25 he was on the platform near the waiting room; the shock wave caused by the bomb blast threw him against the train on the first track and killed him.

Maria Fresu

Maria, 24 anni, abitava a Gricciano di Montespertoli, in provincia di Firenze e la sua famiglia di origine sarda era composta dalla figlia Angela di tre anni, dai genitori e da sei sorelle ed un fratello. Era in stazione con Angela e due amiche perché stavano andando in vacanza sul lago di Garda. L’esplosione le colpì in sala d’aspetto. Maria, Angela e Verdiana Bivona, una delle amiche, morirono mentre l’altra amica rimase ferita. Del corpo di Maria non si ebbe traccia fino al 29 dicembre, quando gli ultimi esami sui resti rinvenuti fra le macerie confermarono il suo ritrovamento.

Maria, 24 years old, lived in Gricciano di Montespertoli, in the province of Florence. Her family was from Sardinia and consisted of: her three year old daughter Angela, her parents, and seven brothers and sisters. She was in Bologna Station with Angela and two friends because they were all going on holiday to Garda Lake. The explosion struck her in the waiting room. Maria, Angela, and Verdiana Bivona, one of her friends, died while the other friend was hurt. Maria's body was not found until December 29, when the last exams of the remains found in the rubble confirmed she was there.

Angela Fresu

Angela, 3 anni, abitava a Gricciano di Montespertoli, in provincia di Firenze e famiglia di origine sarda era composta dalla mamma Maria, dai nonni e dai sette fratelli della mamma. Era in stazione con la mamma e due sue amiche perché stavano andando in vacanza sul lago di Garda. L’esplosione le colpì in sala d’aspetto. Maria, Angela e Verdiana Bivona, una delle amiche della mamma, morirono mentre l’altra amica rimase ferita. Con i suoi tre anni Angela è la vittima più piccola della strage.

She was in the station with her mom and her two friends because they were all going on holiday to Garda Lake. The explosion struck her in the waiting room. Maria, Angela and Verdiana Bivona, one of her mother's friends, died, while the other friend was injured. Angela is the youngest victim of the massacre.

Verdiana Bivona

Verdiana, 22 anni, era un’operaia, viveva con i genitori e con uno dei suoi due fratelli a Castelfiorentino (Firenze) dove era nata e la sua famiglia aveva origini siciliane. Il 2 agosto era in stazione perchè stava andando in vacanza sul lago di Garda con due amiche e la figlia di una di loro. Lo scoppio della bomba ha ucciso Verdiana, la sua amica Maria Fresu e la figlioletta Angela. L’altra amica che era con loro è rimasta ferita e si è salvata.

Verdiana, 22 years old, was a worker who lived with her parents and one of her two brothers in Castelfiorentino (Florence) where she was born; her family had Sicilian origins. On the 2nd of August, she was in the station because she was going on a vacation to Garda Lake with two friends and one of the friend’s daughter. The bomb’s explosion killed Verdiana, her friend, Maria Fresu, and Maria’s daughter, Angela. The other friend who was with them was hurt but was spared.

Francesco Antonio Lascala

Francesco Antonio, 56 anni, era sposato ed aveva tre figli, era appassionato di pesca e viveva a Reggio Calabria con la moglie e uno dei suoi figli che aveva 15 anni. Era stato centralinista alle Ferrovie dello Stato ed era in pensione. Il 2 agosto stava andando a Cremona per trascorrere alcuni giorni dalla figlia. Il treno con il quale era partito era arrivato a Bologna con tre ore di ritardo e per questo motivo Francesco Antonio aveva perso la coincidenza e aveva dovuto aspettare il treno delle 11,05. Lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise.

Francesco Antonio, 56 years old, was married and had three children. He was passionate about fishing and lived in Reggio Calabria with his wife and one of his children, who was 15. He had worked as telephone operator at the National Railways and was then retired. On the 2nd of August, he was going to Cremona to spend some days with his daughter. The train on which he had departed had arrived in Bologna three hours late and for this reason Francesco Antonio missed his connection and had to wait for the 11:05 train. The bomb’s explosion killed him.

Maria Angela Marangon

Maria Angela, 22 anni, era nata a Rosolina, in provincia di Rovigo, aveva due fratelli e una sorella. Aveva trovato lavoro come babysitter presso una famiglia bolognese e appena poteva tornava a casa. Sabato 2 agosto era in stazione per ritornare a Rosolina e lo scoppio della bomba la uccise.

Maria Angela, 22 years old, was born in Rosolina, in the province of Rovigo. She had two brothers and a sister. She had found a job as a babysitter with a Bolognese family and as soon as she had the chance, she tried to go home. On the 2nd of August, she was in the station to go home to Rosolina when the bomb blast killed her.

Mauro Di Vittorio

Mauro, 24 anni, abitava a Torpignattara, nella periferia romana, era orfano di padre e aveva due sorelle ed un fratello. Nell’estate del 1980 si era messo in viaggio verso Londra dove sperava di trovare un lavoro. Arrivato in Francia scrisse sul suo diario di viaggio: «Mi permetto pure una colazione e all’una prendo il traghetto. Londra, eccomi. Dover con le sue bianche scogliere mi sta di fronte». Alla frontiera venne fermato e rimandato indietro perché non aveva denaro sufficiente per mantenersi. Fece quindi il viaggio a ritroso e il 2 agosto si trovava in stazione dove la bomba lo uccise. La famiglia e gli amici lo credevano a Londra ma il 10 agosto ebbero la notizia della sua presenza in stazione.

Mauro, 24 years old, lived in Torpignattara, near Rome. He had lost his father and had two sisters and one brother. In the summer of 1980 he travelled to London where he had hoped to find a job. When he arrived in France he wrote in his travel diary: "I will indulge in breakfast and at 1 o’ clock I’ll take the ferry. London, here I am. Dover with its white cliffs is facing me". But at the border he was stopped and sent back because he did not have enough money. So he traveled back to Italy and on the 2nd of August he was inside the station where the bomb killed him. His family and friends believed him to be in London but on August 10th they heard the news about his presence at the station.

Roberto Procelli

Roberto, 21 anni, era figlio unico e viveva a San Leo di Anghiari, una frazione di Arezzo. Si era diplomato ragioniere, aveva seguito un corso per programmatore elettronico ed aveva trovato lavoro. Aiutava anche il padre nella loro coltivazione di tabacco. Il 13 maggio era partito per svolgere il servizio di leva nel 121° Battaglione di artiglieria leggera a Bologna. Sabato 2 agosto era in stazione perchè stava tornando a casa. E’ stato colpito dallo scoppio della bomba: lo hanno ritrovato nella piazza antistante la stazione vicino ad una cabina telefonica. E’ stato identificato dalla piastrina che portava al collo.

Roberto, 21 years old, was an only child and lived in San Leo of Anghiari, near Arezzo. He had graduated as an accountant, had followed a programmer course, and had found a job. He also helped his father in their tobacco cultivation. On May 13^th he left home for the national service to be completed with the 121st Battalion of Light Artillery in Bologna. On the 2nd of August, he was inside the station because he was going home. He was hit by the bomb’s blast; they found him in the square in front of the station near a telephone booth. He was identified by the dog tags around his neck.

Berta Ebner

Berta, 50 anni, era nata a San Leonardo in Passiria in provincia di Bolzano, aveva un fratello, non era sposata e viveva in casa con la madre. Faceva la casalinga. Non sappiamo perché il 2 agosto fosse in stazione dove la bomba la uccise.

Berta, 50 years old, was born at San Leonardo in Passiria in the province of Bolzano. She had a brother, was not married, and lived with her mother. She was a housewife. We do not know why she was in the station on the 2nd of August when the bomb killed her.

Salvatore Seminara

Salvatore, 34 anni, era originario di Gravina di Catania, aveva un fratello e una sorella. Era perito elettrotecnico e da 9 anni lavorava come operaio specializzato nella sede di Bologna della ditta Stracuzzi, specializzata in apparecchiature elettriche per la segnalazione ferroviaria. Divideva l’alloggio con Antonino di Paola, un collega di Palermo. Il 2 agosto i due erano in stazione per aspettare il fratello di Salvatore che stava facendo il servizio militare e voleva trascorre due giorni di licenza a Bologna. Il suo treno che doveva arrivare alle 10.15 era in ritardo e così Antonino e Salvatore entrarono nella sala d’aspetto di seconda classe. La bomba li uccise entrambi.

Salvatore, 34 years old, was originally from Gravina di Catania and had a brother and a sister. He was an electrical engineer and had been working as a specialist in the Bologna branch of Stracuzzi, a company specializing in electrical equipment for railways, for 9 years. He shared a home with Antonino di Paola, a colleague of Palermo. On the 2nd of August, the two were at the station waiting for Salvatore's brother who was doing his national service and wanted to spend two days in Bologna. His train was supposed to arrive at 10:15, but it was late and Antonino and Salvatore entered the second-class waiting room. The bomb killed them both.

Antonino Di Paola

Antonino, 32 anni, era di Palermo, aveva due sorelle ed un fratello, amava trasmettere alla radio e da 14 anni lavorava per la ditta Stracuzzi, specializzata in apparecchiature elettriche per la segnalazione ferroviaria. Aveva lavorato in diverse città: Palermo, Messina Caltanissetta, Monfalcone e Trieste. Nel gennaio 1980 era stato trasferito a Bologna dove aveva preso una stanza in affitto assieme al collega Salvatore Seminara, catanese di 34 anni. Il 9 agosto sarebbe tornato a casa per le ferie. Il 2 agosto era in stazione con Salvatore per aspettare il fratello di quest’ultimo che stava facendo il servizio militare e voleva trascorre due giorni di licenza a Bologna. Il suo treno doveva arrivare alle 10.15, ma era in ritardo e così Antonino e Salvatore entrarono nella sala d’aspetto di seconda classe. La bomba li uccise entrambi.

He had two sisters and one brother, loved radio broadcasting, and had spent 14 years working for Stracuzzi, a company specializing in electrical equipment for railways. He had worked in several cities: Palermo, Messina, Caltanissetta, Monfalcone, and Trieste. In January 1980, he was transferred to Bologna where he rented a room with his 34 years old colleague Salvatore Seminara. On the 2nd of August, he was at Bologna Station with Salvatore to wait for Salvatore’s brother who was doing his national service and wanted to spend two days in Bologna. His train was supposed to arrive at 10.15, but it was late and Antonino and Salvatore entered the second-class waiting room. The bomb killed them both. He would have been home for the holidays on August 9^th.

Marina Antonella Trolese

Marina, 16 anni, era di Sant’Angelo di Piove in provincia di Padova, studiava al liceo Tito Livio della città patavina e doveva partire con la sorella di 15 anni per un viaggio studio. Con loro in stazione a Bologna c’erano la madre Anna Maria e il fratello dodicenne. Lo scoppio li colpì in pieno: la mamma Anna Maria morì immediatamente, i fratelli rimasero feriti, mentre Marina riportò gravissime ustioni e mori il 22 agosto all’ospedale di Padova.

Marina, 16 years old, was born in Sant'Angelo di Piove in the province of Padua, she attended Tito Livio High School, and was supposed to leave with her 15 year old sister for a study trip. Their mother Anna Maria and their 12 year old brother were with them in Bologna Station. The explosion hit them in full force: their mother Anna Maria died immediately, her siblings were injured; Marina suffered heavy burns and died August 22 at the hospital in Padua.

Anna Maria Salvagnini in Trolese

Anna Maria, 51 anni, risiedeva a Sant’Angelo di Piove in provincia di Padova e insegnava nella città patavina presso la scuola media Palladio. Il 2 agosto era in stazione a Bologna con il figlio dodicenne per accompagnare le due figlie in partenza per un viaggio studio. Lo scoppio li colpì in pieno: Anna Maria morì immediatamente, il figlio e una figlia rimasero feriti, mentre Marina, la figlia sedicenne, riportò gravissime ustioni e morì giorni dopo all’ospedale di Padova.

Anna Maria, 51 years old, lived in Sant'Angelo di Piove in the province of Padua, where she was a teacher at Palladio Middle School. On the 2nd of August, she was in Bologna Station with her 12 year old son to accompany her two daughters who were departing for a study trip. The explosion hit them in full force: Anna Maria died instantly, her younger son and daughter were injured, while Marina, her 16 year old, suffered heavy burns and died days later at the hospital in Padua.

Vittorio Vaccaro

Vittorio, 24 anni, operaio ceramista, era nato a Palermo e viveva a Casalgrande, Reggio Emilia, con la moglie che aveva conosciuto a Rimini e una figlia di 4 anni. Il 2 agosto era partito in auto con la madre Eleonora verso la stazione di Bologna dove dovevano andare ad accogliere una zia proveniente dalla Sicilia. Lo scoppio della bomba li ha uccisi entrambi.

Vittorio, 24 years old, a ceramic worker, was born in Palermo and lived in Casalgrande, Reggio Emilia with his wife, who had met in Rimini, and their 4 year old daughter. On the 2nd of August, he had driven with his mother Eleonora to Bologna Station where they were to welcome an aunt coming from Sicily. The bomb’s explosion killed them both.

Eleonora, 46 anni, era di origini palermitane e il 2 agosto era partita in auto con il figlio Vittorio di 24 anni che viveva a Casalgrande, Reggio Emilia. Dovevano recarsi alla stazione di Bologna per accogliere sua sorella proveniente dalla Sicilia. Lo scoppio della bomba li ha uccisi entrambi.

Eleonora, 46 years old, was born in Palermo and on the 2nd of August she was driving with her 24 year old son, Vittorio, who lived in Casalgrande, Reggio Emilia. They had to go to Bologna Station to welcome her sister from Sicily. The bomb’s explosion killed them both.

Amorveno Marzagalli

Amorveno, 54 anni, viveva ad Omegna, in provincia di Novara, con la moglie e il figlio. Lavorava come dirigente in una ditta produttrice di macchine da caffè. In quell’estate del 1980 aveva accompagnato la famiglia al Lido degli Estensi, in provincia di Ravenna e poi avrebbe dovuto raggiungere il fratello a Cremona con il quale aveva programmato una gita sul Po. Erano dieci anni che il fratello lo invitava ma solo quella volta Amorveno acconsentì, anche per non lasciarlo solo dopo la morte della madre avvenuta in giugno. La mattina del 2 agosto si fece accompagnare alla stazione di Ravenna e di lì, dopo vent’anni che non saliva su di un treno, si mise in viaggio alla volta di Bologna dove lo attendeva una coincidenza in partenza alle 11.05. Lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise.

Amorveno, 54 years old, lived in Omegna, in the province of Novara, with his wife and son. He worked as a manager in a company that produced coffee makers. In the summer of 1980 he accompanied his family to the Lido degli Estensi, in the province of Ravenna, and then had to reach his brother in Cremona with whom he had planned a trip on the Po River. His brother had been inviting him for 10 years but this was the only time Amorveno agreed, partly because he did not want to leave him alone after the death of their mother in June. On the 2nd of August, he was accompanied to Ravenna Station and there, after twenty years of not being on one, he took a train and travelled to Bologna. He was waiting for a train connection at 11:05 when the explosion killed him.

Paolo Zecchi

Paolo, 23 anni, era figlio unico, era nato a Bologna, si era diplomato in ragioneria e lavorava in una banca ad Ozzano dell’Emilia in provincia di Bologna. Si era sposato da pochi mesi con Viviana che aveva la sua stessa età e che aveva appena annunciato di aspettare un bambino. Vivevano a San Lazzaro di Savena con i genitori di Viviana. Il 2 agosto erano entrambi in stazione per acquistare i biglietti per il treno e per il traghetto che li avrebbe portati in Sardegna all’inizio di settembre. Lo scoppio li uccise entrambi.

Paolo, 23 years old, was an only child, born in Bologna, had graduated in law, and was employed in a bank in Ozzano dell'Emilia in the province of Bologna. He had been married for just a few months to Viviana, who had just announced that she was expecting a baby. They lived in San Lazzaro di Savena with Viviana's parents. On the 2nd of August, they were both at the station to buy the train and ferry tickets that would have taken them to Sardinia in early September. The explosion killed them both.

Da pochi mesi si era sposata con Paolo che era un suo coetaneo e aveva appena annunciato di aspettare un bambino. Vivevano a San Lazzaro di Savena con i suoi genitori. Il 2 agosto erano entrambi in stazione per acquistare i biglietti per il treno e per il traghetto che li avrebbe portati in Sardegna all’inizio di settembre. Lo scoppio li uccise entrambi.

Viviana, 23 years old, was born in Bologna. She was an accountant who had found employment on a local farm. She was married to Paolo and had just announced that she was pregnant. They lived in San Lazzaro di Savena with her parents. On the 2nd of August, they were both at the station to buy the train and ferry tickets that would have taken them to Sardinia in early September. The explosion killed them both.

Paolino Bianchi

Paolino, 50 anni, lavorava come muratore in una cooperativa agricola e viveva in provincia di Ferrara a Castello di Vigarano Mainarda, con la madre di salute cagionevole. Tutti gli anni si recava ad Arco di Trento, sul Garda, per trascorrere poco più di una settimana con un’amica molto cara: era l’unica distrazione che si concedeva. Prima di partire aveva organizzato la casa e aveva comprato le provviste per la madre. Sabato 2 agosto era partito prestissimo ed era andato a Bologna per prendere il treno che lo avrebbe portato verso la sua destinazione. La bomba scoppiò mentre era in stazione.

Paolino, 50 years old, worked as a bricklayer in an agricultural cooperative. He lived in the province of Ferrara at Castello di Vigarano Mainarda, with his mother who was not in great health. Every year he would go to Arco di Trento, on the Lake of Garda, to spend just over a week with a very dear friend; it was the only distraction he allowed himself. Before leaving he had tidied up the house and bought supplies for his mother. On the 2nd of August, he left very early and went to Bologna to take the train that would have taken him to his destination. The bomb exploded while he was in the station.

Sergio Secci

Sergio, 24 anni, era nato a Terni e si era laureato al Dams di Bologna. La sua passione era il teatro e il 2 agosto era in viaggio per lavoro verso Bolzano. Sergio era salito sul treno a Forte dei Marmi pensando di arrivare in stazione a Bologna per pendere il treno per Verona in partenza alle 8,18 così da raggiungere un amico che lo aspettava nella città scaligera. Il treno su cui viaggiava era però in ritardo e quindi a Sergio non restava altro se non attendere il treno delle 10,50. La bomba scoppiò mentre era in sala d’aspetto e gli causò gravissime ferite e ustioni. Venne ricoverato in condizioni estremamente gravi all’ospedale Maggiore e morì alle 10,55 del 7 agosto.

Sergio, 24 years old, was born in Terni and had graduated at DAMS in Bologna. His passion was theater and on the 2nd of August he was travelling to Bolzano. Sergio had boarded the train at Forte dei Marmi thinking he would arrive at Bologna Station in time to catch the train to Verona that left at 8:18 to reach a friend who was waiting for him. However, the train on which he was travelling was late and so Sergio had no choice but to wait for the 10.50 train. The bomb exploded in the waiting room and caused severe injuries and burns. He was hospitalized at Maggiore Hospital in extremely severe condition and died at 10:55 on August 7th.

Leo Luca Marino

Leo Luca, 24 anni, originario di Altofonte in provincia di Palermo, proveniva da una famiglia formata dai genitori e da otto figli. Dal 1975 viveva a Ravenna dove lavorava come muratore e dove aveva conosciuto Antonella Ceci che divenne la sua fidanzata. Il 2 agosto i due ragazzi erano in stazione per attendere Angela e Domenica, le sorelle di Leo Luca con le quali sarebbero tornati a Ravenna per un breve periodo di vacanza. Il treno su cui dovevano salire era stato posticipato alle 11 e per questo si trovavano in stazione al momento dello scoppio. Leo Luca, Angela, Antonella e Domenica furono ritrovati morti sotto le macerie.

Leo Luca, 24 years old, was originally from Altofonte in the province of Palermo and had a large family. He had been living in Ravenna since 1975 where he worked as a bricklayer and where he had met Antonella Ceci, who became his girlfriend. On the 2nd of August, Leo Luca and Antonella were at the station waiting for Angela and Domenica, Leo Luca's sisters, who would go back to Ravenna with them for a short vacation. The train on which they were supposed to be on had been postponed to 11 am, so they were in waiting at the station at the time of the explosion. Angela, Antonella, Domenica and Leo Luca were found dead in the rubble.

Domenica Marino

Antonella, 19 years old, was born in Ravenna. She graduated with high grades at chemical-technical school and was supposed to have started working at a sugar factory. On the 2nd of August, she was inside the station with her boyfriend Leo Luca Marino to welcome his sisters arriving from Sicily. They were all supposed to be travelling back to Ravenna together for a short vacation, but the train on which they were supposed to get on had been postponed to 11 am, so they were in the station at the moment of the explosion. Antonella, Angela, Domenica and Leo Luca were found dead in the rubble.

Angela Marino

Mirco Castellaro

Mirco, 33 anni, era originario di Pinerolo in provincia di Torino, aveva a lungo vissuto a Frossasco dove il padre era stato Sindaco. Era capoufficio presso la ditta Vortex Hidra di Fossalta di Copparo e risiedeva a Ferrara, era sposato ed aveva un figlio di sei anni. In società con un amico aveva appena comprato una barca con la prospettiva di avviare una attività rivolta ai turisti. In quell’estate del 1980 il progetto era quello di sistemare il natante ormeggiato in Sicilia e di fare alcuni piccoli viaggi di rodaggio. Vari imprevisti fecero sì che Mirco ritardasse la partenza: il 2 agosto era in stazione e lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise.

Mirco, 33 years old, was originally from Pinerolo in the province of Turin, but had long lived in Frossasco where his father had been mayor. He was chief of staff at Vortex Hidra of Fossalta di Copparo and lived in Ferrara. He was married and had a six-year-old son. He had just bought a boat with a friend with the prospect of starting a tourist business. In the summer 1980 the plan was to fix up the boat that was moored in Sicily and do some small test trips. Various unexpected circumstances delayed their departure; on the 2nd of August he was inside the station and the bomb’s explosion killed him.

Carlo Mauri

So, the Mauri family decided to leave the car at a mechanic in Casalecchio di Reno, near Bologna, and take a train to Brindisi and eventually reach the holiday town. On the 2nd of August, they arrived at the station just moments before the explosion killed them.

Antonio Montanari

Antonio, 86 anni, era di Santa Maria Codifiume, in provincia di Ferrara, aveva fatto il mezzadro ed era in pensione. Da molti anni viveva a Bologna con la moglie con la quale era sposato dal 1920 ed aveva due figli. Aveva la passione delle carte ed era un vero “asso” a briscola, amava leggere i fumetti. La mattina del 2 agosto era andato all’autostazione per informarsi su alcuni orari delle corriere e stava ritornando a casa: aveva perso un autobus per un soffio e si era messo vicino al portico che sta di fronte alla stazione in attesa del bus successivo. A causa dell’esplosione numerosi oggetti si staccarono dall’edificio, uno di questi lo scaraventò a terra e lo ferì. Un amico che passava di lì per caso lo accompagnò immediatamente all’ospedale, dove Antonio morì per le ferite riportate. Con i suoi 86 anni è la vittima più anziana della strage.

Antonio, 86 years old, was from Santa Maria Codifiume, in the province of Ferrara. He spent his working life as a farmer and was, at that time, retired. He had spent many years in Bologna with his wife to whom he had been married to since 1920 and they had two children. He was passionate about cards and was a real "ace" in the game “briscola”; he also liked to read comics. On the 2nd of August, he went to the bus station to inquire about bus timetable and was returning home. He had missed his bus by a hair and stood near the portico that faced the station waiting for the next one. Following the explosion, many objects broke away from the building; one of them threw him on the ground and injured him. A friend that happened to be passing by accompanied him immediately to the hospital, where Antonio died because of the wounds. At 86 years old, he is the oldest victim of the massacre.

Francesco Cesare Diomede Fresa

Cesare, 14 anni, era un ragazzo di Bari, assieme al papà Vito e alla mamma Errica era partito dalla loro città il venerdì primo agosto con il treno per evitare il traffico sull'autostrada. Il 2 agosto erano in stazione e lo scoppio della bomba li ha uccisi. Della famiglia rimase solo la figlia che non era partita assieme ai genitori e al fratello.

Cesare, 14 years old, was just a boy coming from Bari. Alongside his dad Vito and his mother Errica, he had left their town on Friday, August 1st by train to avoid traffic on the highway. On the 2nd of August they were inside the station and the bomb blast killed them. The sole survivor of the family was the daughter who did not leave with her parents and brother.

Errica Frigerio in Diomede Fresa

Errica, 57 anni, era di Bari, era sposata con Vito ed insegnava lettere presso l’Istituto per Geometri “Pitagora”. Aveva due figli: una ragazza e un ragazzo di 14 anni. Venerdì primo agosto assieme al marito e al figlio Cesare erano partiti con il treno per evitare il traffico sull’autostrada. Il 2 agosto erano in stazione e lo scoppio li uccise. Della famiglia rimase solo la figlia che non era partita assieme ai genitori e al fratello.

Erica, 57 years old, was born in Bari. She was married to Vito and taught literature at Istituto per Geometri Pitagora Technical School. She had two children: a girl and a 14 year old boy. On Friday, August 1st, alongside her husband Vito and her son Cesare, she left by train to avoid traffic on the highway. On the 2nd of August, they were all inside the station and the bomb blast killed them. The sole survivor of the family was the daughter who did not leave with her parents and brother.

Vito Diomede Fresa

Vito, 62 anni, era di Bari, era sposato con Errica Frigerio e aveva due figli: una ragazza e un ragazzo di 14 anni. Era un medico impegnato nella ricerca sul cancro ed era direttore dell’Istituto di patologia generale alla facoltà di medicina di Bari. Era partito dalla sua città il venerdì primo agosto con il treno per evitare il traffico sull’autostrada, assieme a lui viaggiavano la moglie e il figlio. Il 2 agosto erano in stazione e lo scoppio della bomba li ha uccisi. Della famiglia rimase solo la figlia che non era partita assieme ai genitori e al fratello.

Vito Ales

Vito, 20 anni, viveva a Piana degli Albanesi, in provincia di Palermo, aveva un diploma come operaio specializzato ed era in attesa di trovare un posto di lavoro stabile. Quel 2 agosto stava andando a Cervia, sulla riviera romagnola, dove come nelle estati precedenti avrebbe lavorato in una pensione. Aveva perso la coincidenza per la città romagnola perchè il convoglio sul quale viaggiava dalla Sicilia era giunto a Bologna in ritardo e quindi alle 10,25 stava aspettando il treno successivo camminando sul marciapiede del primo binario dove fu ucciso dall’esplosione.

Vito, 20 years old, lived in Piana degli Albanesi, in the province of Palermo. He had a diploma as a specialized worker and was looking for a permanent job. On the 2nd of August, he was going to Cervia, on the Adriatic Coast, where, like previous summers, he would have worked in a retirement home. He had missed his connection to Cervia because the train he was travelling on from Sicily had arrived in Bologna late and at 10.25 he was waiting for the next train, walking on the platform of the first track, where he was killed by the explosion.

Lina Ferretti in Mannocci

Lina, 53 anni, era nata a Peccioli in provincia di Pisa. Abitava a Livorno insieme a suo marito Rolando coinvolto anche lui nella strage e rimasto gravemente ferito. Lei casalinga, con una predilezione per la lettura, lui operaio FS, avevano due figli. Era alla stazione di Bologna con suo marito ad aspettare la coincidenza che li avrebbe portati a Brunico per una breve vacanza offerta dalla suocera che aveva fatto una piccola vincita al gioco del lotto. Dovevano partire il 3 agosto, ma si liberò una camera un giorno prima e la padrona della pensione, per tempo, fece sapere loro che sarebbero potuti partire il 2 agosto concedendogli un giorno in più di vacanza. E così fecero. Alle 10,25 era nella sala d’aspetto di 2°classe seduta ad un tavolo, rivolgendo le spalle alla bomba. Fu riconosciuta, con fatica, da suo cognato Loriano il giorno successivo alla strage pur essendo lui passato davanti al suo corpo decine di volte.

Lina, 53 years old, was born in Peccioli in the province of Pisa. She lived in Livorno with her husband, Rolando, who was also affected by the massacre and was seriously injured. She was a housewife and a passionate reader; her husband was a railways worker, and they had two children. She was at Bologna Station with her husband waiting for their connection that would have taken them to Brunico for a short vacation paid by her mother-in-law had won a small amount of money from a lottery. They were supposed to leave on August 3rd, but they had been informed that their room was available a day earlier so they decided to leave earlier and enjoy one more day on holiday. At 10.25 Lina was in the 2nd class waiting room sitting at a table; the bomb was behind her. The day after the massacre she was hardly recognizable to her brother-in-law Loriano; he recognized her only after he had passed her body dozens of times.

Romeo Ruozi

Romeo, 54 anni, era originario di Reggio Emilia, aveva vissuto a Trieste fino al 1975 e abitava a Bologna, era sposato ed aveva tre figli: due grandi sposati e residenti in altre città ed una ragazza di 14 anni che viveva con i genitori. Era pensionato. Romeo si trovava in stazione per accogliere la figlia sposata che veniva a prendere la sorella più piccola con la quale avrebbe trascorso parte delle vacanze estive. Il treno doveva arrivare soltanto alle 11,58 ma Romeo era andato in stazione con largo anticipo, come sua abitudine. Lo scoppio della bomba lo uccise. Il genero lo riconobbe da una particolarità dell'unghia dell'alluce.

Romeo, 54 years old, was originally from Reggio Emilia, had lived in Trieste until 1975 and then moved to Bologna. He was married and had three children: two married and living in other cities and a 14 year old girl who lived with her parents. He was retired. Romeo was at the station to welcome his married daughter who was coming to take her younger sister with her to spend some of the summer vacation together. The train was supposed to arrive at 11.58 but Romeo had gone to the station well in advance, as was his habit. The explosion of the bomb killed him. His son in law recognized him thanks to the wedding ring he had on his finger.

Mario Sica

Mario, 44 anni, era nato a Roma ed era un avvocato specializzato in diritto del lavoro. Dopo aver lavorato alla Fiat di Torino, era stato assunto all’Atc, l’azienda di trasporti di Bologna, città in cui si era trasferito con la moglie ed i tre figli. Il 2 agosto era andato in stazione per accogliere la madre che arrivava da Roma: la bomba scoppiò mentre era sul marciapiede del primo binario e lo uccise.

Mario, 44 years old, was born in Rome and was a workers’ rights lawyer. After working for Fiat in Turin, he was hired at the ATC, the public transport company in Bologna, the city to which he had moved with his wife and three children. On the 2nd of August, he had gone to the station to welcome his mother who was coming from Rome; the bomb exploded as he was on the platform of the first track and killed him.

Lidia Olla in Cardillo

Lidia, 67 anni, aveva una figlia ed abitava a Cagliari con suo marito. I due coniugi erano partiti per raggiungere la sorella di Lidia che risiedeva a Cavalese, in Trentino per trascorrere un periodo di vacanze che era anche un momento di convalescenza per il marito. Il 2 agosto erano in stazione a Bologna dove, nella sala d’aspetto di prima classe, avrebbero dovuto trascorre due ore in attesa del treno. Il signor Cardillo, dopo essersi tolto la giacca ed averla appoggiata sulla sedia accanto alla moglie, uscì dalla sala d’aspetto per andare a controllare l’orario di arrivo del treno. Fece appena in tempo ad uscire quando lo scoppio della bomba lo ferì gravemente provocandogli vaste ustioni su tutto il corpo. Lidia, rimasta all’interno della sala, morì.

Lidia, 67 years old, had a daughter and lived in Cagliari with her husband. The two of them had gone to meet Lidia’s sister who lived in Cavalese, Trentino, to spend some time together on holiday; it was also a recovery period for Lidia’s husband. On the 2nd of August, they were in the first-class waiting room waiting for their train. Mr. Cardillo, having taken off his jacket and laid it across his chair next to his wife, left the waiting room to check the train's arrival time. He had just left the room when the bomb blast wounded him seriously, causing him extensive burns on his whole body. Lidia, who stayed in the room, was killed.
